Saturn Mid-Retrograde Update

“Can you work without supervision?” was the initial theme when Saturn began its retrograde on July 13th, but now that it has left Aries, the theme of the rest of its retrograde cycle is shifting to more of a Piscean “Is the work truly in alignment with my goals?”

Saturn is the planet representing authority, structure, restriction, and time. The way I have always viewed Saturn is like the “Authoritarian Parent” of the outer planets. The one that makes you follow the rules and hands out punishments when you screw up. Saturn wants you to do things properly and in the correct amount of time. If you don’t “do it” right, you will be punished and have to do it all over again!

But when Saturn is in retrograde, it turns the rules and authoritarian demands inward. While in goal-oriented and action ready Aries, Saturn became a taskmaster. And the initial retrograde period was like a test of how well we could work without supervision.

Imagine Saturn in retrograde like Mom or Dad leaving you home alone for the weekend when you were a teen. You know what you are supposed to do, but you have this sudden sense of freedom to act out. Do you throw a house party while they are gone, or do you just get on with whatever you should be doing? This is how it is when Saturn is in retrograde. You have been shown the rules. It is up to you to follow them. Saturn is trusting you to be good. And you had better be good, because when Saturn comes back, you will be judged on how well you behaved.

Now that Saturn is stepping across the line, and giving us a return to Pisces,

the test has changed.

This year has seen a lot of changes with the outer planets. Pluto, Saturn, Neptune, Jupiter, and Uranus have all made the shift to new signs. That’s big-change energy. We’ve had to roll with the punches while this energetic shift happened.

With Saturn returning to Pisces, we’re getting a chance to review the foundations we have built upon to see whether we are still aligned with our goals for the future. What steps have we taken? What issues have recently come to our attention? Have we left any unfinished business that is preventing us from being able to move forward?

This portion of Saturn’s retrograde is going to help us see the things that still need to be done. It is, however, still up to us to do the things we need to do. Recognition alone is not enough. Remember, this is Saturn we are talking about. And the taskmaster will return in full force on November 27th.

Use your time wisely here, and do not waste this reprieve from having the universal parent figure looking over your shoulder. Take the lessons you learn and continue working toward your goals.
